Q&A Edge Products Insight CTS (Color Touch Screen) Monitor

A Q&A with Rich Roberts, Western Region Sales Manager at Edge Products

Not too long ago, we had a conversation with Rich at Edge Products, discussing the Insight CTS. He couldn’t say enough good things about this product and that it should be an add-on to any engine or performance modification … hands down, everyone should have an Insight.

Now, I know Rich is a regional manager for Edge, but as we talked more, he easily made his point with enthusiasm for the Insight, especially the CTS version with its big 4.3” screen (Color Touch Screen). He went on to tell us why an engine monitor and digital gauge display was so important for anyone who’s customized their diesel truck. “Any modification to an engine has the potential to lessen the longevity of the truck”, Rich states, and further says, “but if you are able to monitor important parameters and alter your operation, then you can protect against damages from the modifications.” One example he gave me was the installation of a handheld programmer, whether from Edge or not, that has included “Hot” settings. If you are unable to monitor EGT’s (Exhaust Gas Temperatures), then you may create a catastrophic event where temps reach a point of fusing parts together or melting, without even knowing it … of course, until it’s too late. “So why not install some gauges?” we asked. Rich explains, “When you weigh out the cost of getting gauges to monitor 2-3 parameters (2 or 3 gauge cluster in a pod), an Edge Products Insight is going to cost much less and monitor more (up to 18 parameters), allowing the user to pick which digital gauges they want to see. Add on top of that, the ability to read and clear trouble codes, log data, set alerts and have a Driving Coach, which provides driving information to get the best fuel mileage . . . there just isn’t a comparison.” Lastly, Rich gave us this bit of information with a laugh, “Don’t want to forget the cool factor, the CS & CTS Monitor are completely customizable, including different backgrounds or a user’s uploaded image … Choose which gauges are displayed and the gauge color. It comes with a suction cup mount and its super easy to install . . . I think everyone should have an Insight.”

Here’s some other information that makes the Edge Insight a great tool to have for any custom or modified diesel truck, or even stock trucks for the cool factor:

GAUGES - In cab monitor displays up to 8 gauge parameters at a time.

SCAN TOOL - Capture and record information about the vehicle’s performance.

MILEAGE COACH - Designed with fuel economy in mind and features tools to help drivers gauge, monitor, and conserve fuel consumption and MPG.

DATA LOGGING - shows crucial data to help identify the “sweet spots” as well as potential problems on your driving experience. Also allows for a comprehensive, accurate picture of the vehicle’s condition, such as temperatures, pressures, speed, and more!

VIDEO - Built-in video port that allows users to connect the state-of-the-art Edge back-up camera, or other compatible video source directly to the CTS unit.

PERFORMANCE TESTING - records 0-60 and quarter-mile times; quarter-mile MPH; peak engine temperature, RPM, speed and transmission temperature values. Sounds audible alerts when user-defined values are reached and automatically records the highest value of key parameters.

MYSTYLE SOFTWARE - Allows users to choose from a variety of Edge custom backgrounds or simply upload an image of your choice. Size, crop and save to your CS or CTS unit for the ultimate in customizability.

Our take, the Edge Products Insight does a lot for an affordable price and surely belongs in any diesel enthusiast’s truck.

OC DIESEL 2014 Desert Convoy

We know diesel truck owners like to hang out, meet other enthusiasts and have a good time therefore we've put together a single-day event on Saturday, October 11th, 2014. It's the 2014 OC DIESEL Desert Convoy and we're inviting all diesel truck owners to join us! Meet-up is at the OC DIEESL compound in Huntington Beach, CA at 6:30am, where we'll first lineup and then unleash our band of trucks across the streets and highways into the high desert, CONVOY STYLE. Upon reaching our final off-road destination, we'll drop our tailgates, break out the BBQs, EZ-Ups, and coolers and pop open cold ones for a social gathering & good time in the middle of the desert. You won't be required a 4WD as long as you have a tow rope! No seriously, the dirt roads will be easy to handle for 2WD trucks as well.

To add some spice to the festivities, and with all those brave enough, we're bringing heat to the desert with a Chili Pepper Eating Contest. We know your trucks are diesel tough but can your stomach handle the heat? How many peppers can you eat??? Small prizes awarded but nothing near the enjoyment of those watching.
We'll breakdown by evening and proceed home after sundown giving those of you with HID's & LED's a good reason to light up the desert skies back to the highway! So, if you own a diesel pick-up and you're looking for a good time then come join us. No memberships necessary, no fees, just truck owners having fun with friends and their pride and joy!

Front and Rear Bumpers are available for Dodge, Ford and GM full-sized trucks, in several finish options, including (4) powder-coated choices, a sandblasted and primed option, and raw steel - for those that want to handle the total customization on their own.

Titan's Spare Tire Auxiliary Fuel System - STAFS

So Simple Yet Innovative - An Additional Diesel Fuel Tank as the Spare Tire

Spare Tire Fuel Tank
One of the newest innovations to come from the leading diesel fuel tank manufacturer, Titan Fuel Tanks, is the Spare Tire Auxiliary Fuel System (STAFS™). This revolutionary fuel system adds an extra 30 gallons to your diesel truck’s fuel capacity. In most cases, these will double the amount of fuel when combined with American-made diesel truck stock tanks. Double the amount of fuel means double the amount of travel before a refueling. As almost every diesel truck owner knows, gas stations carrying diesel are few and far between. Taking a long trip means planning out your stops or scouting the off-ramps for places that can quench your truck’s thirst . . . this usually leads to stretching out the fumes left in your reserve or filling up when not really needed. The Spare Tire Fuel Tank is perfect for trucks with custom wheels and larger tires, where the spare tire has been rendered useless, compared to the custom tires, and only taking up underbody space.

Titan’s simple, yet revolutionary idea, re-purposes this space to add 30 gallons of diesel fuel, accessible on-the-go. One touch of the button starts the fuel transfer and an illuminated display shows fuel levels all from the in-cab controls. Like all Titan Diesel Fuel Tanks, the STAFS tank is made from ¼ inch thick military grade cross-linked polyethylene (XLHDPE). According to Titan, XLHDPE is a space-age material designed to perform in any condition – from extreme hot to frigidly cold. The term 'cross-linked' means that the molecular chains that make up the polymer are chemically bonded together, or 'bridged', to form a continuous, three-dimensional structure. This allows stress and impact energy to be spread throughout the infinite chain of molecules. In other words, TITAN Fuel Tank’s innovative cross-linked structure makes it 20 times more durable than linear-polyethylene, like the stock (OEM) tanks on a truck. Proof that Titan’s Fuel Tanks are near invincible comes from the U.S. Department of Defense, which utilizes the very same processes, materials and expertise for fuel storage in many front-line, combat vehicles.

The Spare Tire Auxiliary Fuel System comes with the Auxiliary Fuel Tank, all mounting hardware, valves, hoses & pumps, and an electronic fuel transfer monitor, integrated with a control unit. Also included with the fuel tank system is a universal filler kit mated with an attractive brushed aluminum filler door. Detailed instructions and a fuel door assembly mounting template gives you the option to install the filler door assembly on the truck’s exterior sidewall or on the inside wall of the truck’s bed. No matter the bed length or cab style the STAFS system can be installed on most American-made diesel pickup truck models built after 1999. As a special note, an LB7 Kit is required for any 2001-2004 GM Truck with an LB7 transmission. Also, TITAN’s STAFS system can only be installed on vehicles equipped with heavy Class V (5) hitches, which are standard on most full-sized diesel trucks. Fractions of an inch apart, between Dodge Cummins, GM Duramax and Ford Powerstrokes, the Spare Tire Fuel Tank hangs about 2.5 inches lower than the factory spare tire. TITAN’s™ Spare Tire Auxiliary Fuel System (STAFS™) is highly recommended for any truck owner looking to increase the range between diesel fuel stops.

Expert Tips:
The Spare Tire Diesel Fuel Tank, when filled weighs approximately 250lbs. The weight combined with the mounting location will help reduce truck bed bounce.

The Driver Information Center (DIC) will continue to be accurate with the stock tank, however will not calculate fuel in the secondary tank until transferred to the stock tank.

Titan also makes a Spare Tire Buddy for those that have a matching spare to the larger wheels & tires. It allows the spare to be mounted just about anywhere in the truck bed, securing to the rails of the truck bed walls.

FASS Duramax Flow Enhancer Install 01-12 Duramax Part 2

The FASS Duramax Flow Enhancer series designed for the 2001-2012 Chevrolet Duramax 2500 and 3500 is available at Orange County Diesel in Huntington Beach, California. If you have any questions about any other FASS product, or if you need expert assistance installing your FASS Platinum, feel free to call and speak to a FASS service professional at 714-848-2170.
This is Part 2 of a model-specific four-part series about how to install a FASS Duramax Flow Enhancer.

The 2001-2010 installation steps are very similar to the 2011-2012 Duramax's installation. The steps specific for the 11-12 installation are in green, and the steps unique to the 01-10 installation are in blue.

Please find the links to Part 1, Part 3, and Part 4 here.

Step 2: Prepare suction and feed lines.

Remove the 3 bolts holding the fuel cooler to the mounting bracket. The fuel cooler is located in front of the fuel tank.
Using a fuel line disconnect tool, disconnect the factory suction line located above the fuel cooler. Place the disconnect tool around the fuel tube and slide the tool under the fuel line connection to release the fuel line.
Pull the red square tab out and push in the rounded tab, releasing the fitting from the steel-beaded feed line.
Using oil, insert PLB-1212 into one end of the provided FL-1002 fuel line. Feed line over frame to the stock fuel connection.
Push the PLB-1212 into the factory suction line until you hear a click and the tabs are locked in place. Slide square tab back in to secure.
Using an HC-1001 hose clamp, insert the QD-1002 into the other end of the provided FL-1002 fuel line and secure.
Oil the rings inside the QD-1002 and slide over the factory feed line until you hear a click. Do not cut the line at this time.

FASS Duramax Flow Enhancer Install 01-12 Duramax Part 3

The FASS Duramax Flow Enhancer series designed for the 2001-2012 Chevrolet Duramax 2500 and 3500 is available at Orange County Diesel in Huntington Beach, California. If you have any questions about any other FASS product, or if you need expert assistance installing your FASS Platinum, feel free to call and speak to a FASS service professional at 714-848-2170.

This is Part 3 of a model-specific four-part series about how to install a FASS Duramax Flow Enhancer.

The 2001-2010 installation steps are very similar to the 2011-2012 Duramax. The steps specific for the 11-12 installation are in green, and the steps unique to the 01-10 installation are in blue.

Please find the links to Part 1, Part 2, and Part 4 here.

Step 3: Mount FASS Fuel Pump
Position FB-4002 bracket to mounting location on the cross member directly in front of the fuel tank making sure there are no obstructions.
Position system to mounting location on the cross member directly in front of the fuel tank making sure there are no obstructions. The pump should be mounted parallel to the frame.
Make sure the mounting holes are not located on the radium bend of the cross member. Using template, mark holes. Pre-drill with 1/8" bit and final drill with 5/16" bit.
The weep hole must face down for proper pump operation. Any other direction will void your warranty.
Mount pump to the cross member using 5/16" bolts.
Reach between the cross member and the bed to install the 3 bolts and tighten with a 1/2" socket.
The DIPF fitting does not require sealant on it’s threads. It is an O-ring sealed fitting. Install two DIPF-1003 fittings into the Inlet/Outlet ports on the DMAX. Torque to 18 ft./lbs.
Connect the male end of the wire harness to the female electrical connector on the FASS pump. Turn key to the “On” position. With the FASS pump on, squirt a liberal amount of WD-40 or other lubricant into the Inlet port. This procedure will “wet” the Gerotor and allow for better suction during initial priming.
