Titan's Spare Tire Auxiliary Fuel System - STAFS

So Simple Yet Innovative - An Additional Diesel Fuel Tank as the Spare Tire

Spare Tire Fuel Tank
One of the newest innovations to come from the leading diesel fuel tank manufacturer, Titan Fuel Tanks, is the Spare Tire Auxiliary Fuel System (STAFS™). This revolutionary fuel system adds an extra 30 gallons to your diesel truck’s fuel capacity. In most cases, these will double the amount of fuel when combined with American-made diesel truck stock tanks. Double the amount of fuel means double the amount of travel before a refueling. As almost every diesel truck owner knows, gas stations carrying diesel are few and far between. Taking a long trip means planning out your stops or scouting the off-ramps for places that can quench your truck’s thirst . . . this usually leads to stretching out the fumes left in your reserve or filling up when not really needed. The Spare Tire Fuel Tank is perfect for trucks with custom wheels and larger tires, where the spare tire has been rendered useless, compared to the custom tires, and only taking up underbody space.

Titan’s simple, yet revolutionary idea, re-purposes this space to add 30 gallons of diesel fuel, accessible on-the-go. One touch of the button starts the fuel transfer and an illuminated display shows fuel levels all from the in-cab controls. Like all Titan Diesel Fuel Tanks, the STAFS tank is made from ¼ inch thick military grade cross-linked polyethylene (XLHDPE). According to Titan, XLHDPE is a space-age material designed to perform in any condition – from extreme hot to frigidly cold. The term 'cross-linked' means that the molecular chains that make up the polymer are chemically bonded together, or 'bridged', to form a continuous, three-dimensional structure. This allows stress and impact energy to be spread throughout the infinite chain of molecules. In other words, TITAN Fuel Tank’s innovative cross-linked structure makes it 20 times more durable than linear-polyethylene, like the stock (OEM) tanks on a truck. Proof that Titan’s Fuel Tanks are near invincible comes from the U.S. Department of Defense, which utilizes the very same processes, materials and expertise for fuel storage in many front-line, combat vehicles.

The Spare Tire Auxiliary Fuel System comes with the Auxiliary Fuel Tank, all mounting hardware, valves, hoses & pumps, and an electronic fuel transfer monitor, integrated with a control unit. Also included with the fuel tank system is a universal filler kit mated with an attractive brushed aluminum filler door. Detailed instructions and a fuel door assembly mounting template gives you the option to install the filler door assembly on the truck’s exterior sidewall or on the inside wall of the truck’s bed. No matter the bed length or cab style the STAFS system can be installed on most American-made diesel pickup truck models built after 1999. As a special note, an LB7 Kit is required for any 2001-2004 GM Truck with an LB7 transmission. Also, TITAN’s STAFS system can only be installed on vehicles equipped with heavy Class V (5) hitches, which are standard on most full-sized diesel trucks. Fractions of an inch apart, between Dodge Cummins, GM Duramax and Ford Powerstrokes, the Spare Tire Fuel Tank hangs about 2.5 inches lower than the factory spare tire. TITAN’s™ Spare Tire Auxiliary Fuel System (STAFS™) is highly recommended for any truck owner looking to increase the range between diesel fuel stops.

Expert Tips:
The Spare Tire Diesel Fuel Tank, when filled weighs approximately 250lbs. The weight combined with the mounting location will help reduce truck bed bounce.

The Driver Information Center (DIC) will continue to be accurate with the stock tank, however will not calculate fuel in the secondary tank until transferred to the stock tank.

Titan also makes a Spare Tire Buddy for those that have a matching spare to the larger wheels & tires. It allows the spare to be mounted just about anywhere in the truck bed, securing to the rails of the truck bed walls.
